The Sobel Tinari Economics Group offers review and critique of opposing economic expert reports. Our approach is to review the reasonableness of underlying assumptions, appropriateness of the methods used, accuracy of calculations, and adherence to professional standards. The exclusion of adjustments to income streams and offsets to losses can often overstate the true value of a case, as can use of inappropriate growth and/or discount rates. Critique of an opposing expert’s report should be considered when there is significant financial exposure in a litigated matter (personal injury, wrongful death, or employment law) or the calculated value of loss appears to be overstated. During this process we often work with counsel to help them understand what the opposing expert’s opinions are based on and how the expert reached the conclusions that were arrived at. When significant errors or problems are discovered, we stand ready to provide an Independent Appraisal of damages.
